Dad celebrating 40th birthday defies lockdown rules - because he was desperate for cake

A dad defied bail conditions and lockdown rules as he wanted to celebrate his 40th birthday.

Self-employed electrician John Barratt was caught at his partner Debbie Anderson’s home in Cupar, Fife, on Saturday after being told a cake had been made for him.

Barratt, of Tayport, also Fife, was banned from approaching Debbie and was arrested.

He spent the rest of his birthday and the next night in a police cell.

At Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday, Barratt’s solicitor Ross Bennett said his client lived alone and was “feeling a bit down”.

Barratt admitted breaching bail and sentence was deferred.
