Dad caught with £5k worth of heroin at his son's Lanarkshire home jailed for nearly three years

A dad caught with heroin worth £5000 at his son's Lanarkshire home has been jailed for two years and nine months.

Stephen Jones senior, 54, admitted being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug at the property in Forrest Road, Salsburgh.

Stephen Jones junior, 30, and Lee Jones, 22, of Mavisbank Street in Airdrie, faced the same charge, but had their not guilty pleas accepted.

Liam Haggart, prosecuting, told Airdrie Sheriff Court that police officers recovered the drugs after going to the house with a search warrant on October 23, 2019.

Stephen Jones junior admitted being in possession of cannabis worth £200 that day.

The court heard that Jones senior, from Glasgow, has a previous conviction for being concerned in the supply of drugs, which resulted in a 28-month jail sentence.

Sheriff David Young had hinted that he might impose a non-custodial sentence this time after adjourning the case for reports.

But eventually the sheriff decided it had to be prison for the repeat offender.

Stephen Jones junior's solicitor said he had been consuming "a lot of cannabis" in 2019 but stressed: "He has cut down his use dramatically and no longer sees it as an issue."

Sheriff Young fined Jones junior £315.
