A dad was caught beating two children on footage captured on a Ring doorbell camera by their mum.
Peter Hussey was jailed for assault and child neglect after an investigation into what police described as "utterly horrendous abuse".
He was snared after his violence was recorded and shared with detectives.
Hussey's ex-partner contacted Merseyside Police on January 27 to report that he had abused their children.
She was able to provide evidence after she installed a Ring doorbell camera within her home that captured his attacks.
Hussey, of Hawthorne Road in Bootle, was then arrested the following day.
The 34-year-old was sentenced to 40 months behind bars for assault and two counts of child neglect at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, April 30.
Following his sentence hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Hurst said: "Hussey subjected his young victims to utterly horrendous abuse, which has left them scarred both physically and emotionally and will no doubt have a lasting impact on their lives.
“The cruelty he displayed towards these two children is completely reprehensible and we at Merseyside Police welcome that he will now be spending significant time behind bars to reflect on his despicable actions.
"There is never an excuse for violence towards children or domestic abuse of any kind. No man, woman or child should be subject to assault under any circumstances.
"I’d also like to commend the bravery of Hussey’s ex-partner in coming forward, reporting his actions to us and supporting the prosecution against him.
“I would encourage anyone who is experiencing, or knows about, child neglect or domestic abuse to have the courage to report it to us, and we will support you in every way we can."
