Dad believed to be from the south west has died after being 'punched' outside bar in Zante

A dad, believed to be from Somerset, who was left in a critical condition following an attack outside a Greece bar has died.

It is believed the man was on the Greek island of Zakynthos - also known as Zante - for a stag do.

Two men reportedly threatened and pushed the 35-year-old while he was drinking at a bar in Laganas on Thursday night (May 23).

Greek news channels, claim the attack continued on the street outside the venue where he was punched.

The father-of-two is said to have suffered a severe head injury and received medical attention at a local hospital.

On Friday (May 24) he airlifted to a hospital in Athens where he remained in a critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office confirmed his death today (Thursday, May 30).

A spokesman said: "We are supporting the family of a British man following his death in Greece, and are in contact with the Greek authorities."

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office is also assisting Greek authorities with their enquiries.

Greek media outlets are reporting that two men, aged 22 and 25, have been arrested in connection with the assault.
