Allowing children to express their creativity and personality through art is incredibly important for their development.
Not only that, but it can be a highly enjoyable experience for the little ones as they get to experiment with different materials and mediums, everything from crayons to watercolours and paper-mâché.
It's all part of giving them a well-rounded education.
However as one parent has recently discovered, art teachers should put a lot of consideration into the subjects they ask kids to paint - or they could face some rather rude consequences.
The parent, going by the name jjustjjoseph, shared an amusing image in an online discussion forum showing a gallery wall of paintings by a class of children.
Each child had been asked to produce an image of candlelight - but the end result held a striking resemblance to something else entirely.
Dirty-minded commenters were quick to share their thoughts on the Reddit post, with many comparing the work to that of Georgia O'Keeffe.
One said: "Georgia O'Keeffe would be proud."
Another added: "Haha! Got some regular Georgia O'keeffe's here."
O'Keeffe was an American artist, best known for her paintings of enlarged flowers - which some people also think look rather rude.
Most Reddit users were merely entertained by the artwork.
"This is why I can't be a parent, I would laugh so hard I'd be a spectacle and have to awkwardly try to dodge explaining what was so funny," one wrote.
"There's something oddly familiar about these paintings," said a second.
Unsurprisingly there was also a lot of scepticism about the subject of the art.
"I think one of those kids knew exactly what they were doing," read one comment.
Another user didn't waste any time pretending they were candles: "That middle one is straight-up just a vagina. The other ones could go either way."
Similarly, someone else posed this valid question: "There isn't a single wick in any of the paintings and you think the students were told to draw candlelight?"
But no matter what you think the paintings look like, the final message was clear: "Every candle flame is unique and beautiful in its own way."
