Dad begs for son's hammer killer to remain behind bars until he apologises

A grieving dad says the Parole Board should not release the man who murdered his teenage son until the killer shows remorse.

Patrick Pakeerah’s only child Stefan was 14 when he was bludgeoned and stabbed to death in 2004 by school friend Warren Leblanc, then aged 17.

Leblanc, now 32, could be freed at a parole hearing on Monday.

Patrick, 57, said: “It would make a massive difference to me if he said ‘I am sorry’.

“But he can’t bring himself to say those three words and that proves he is not yet remorseful.

"Until the true trigger for the killing is understood he shouldn’t be deemed safe for release.”

He fought back tears as he took the Mirror back to the park in Leicester where his son was murdered.

Patrick said: “When the police brought me to the scene there was still blood on the trees he grabbed while trying to flee.”

The civil servant, from the city, added seeing his son in the mortuary still haunts him.

He said: “His face was like someone crying out in agony for help.”

Warren Leblanc could be freed at a parole hearing net week (PA)

Leblanc killed Stefan with a hammer and knife, inflicting over 60 injuries in what he claimed was a robbery gone wrong.

He admitted murder and was jailed for a minimum of 13 years.

The Parole Board said: “The panel will carefully look at a whole range of evidence, including the original evidence and any evidence of behaviour change.

“We do that with great care, and public safety is our number one priority.”
