Dad awarded £285,000 after post falls on his head during son's match

A dad has been awarded £285,000 after a rugby post fell and fractured his skull as he watched his son play.

Brian Morrow, 50, was a spectator at the under-11s match.

As he stood beneath the posts an upright came loose and fell, hitting him on the head.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to hospital with multiple skull fractures.

Brian, of Oswestry, Shrops, was discharged but continued to suffer health problems, including seizures.

He sued Shrewsbury Rugby Union Club (Champion News)

He was forced to give up his job as a financial adviser and now works as a National Trust volunteer.

Brian has won the compensation payout after suing Shrewsbury Rugby Union Club, which admitted liability.

In a ruling at the High Court, Mr Justice Farbey said the “sudden and shocking” accident, in 2016, had left a psychiatric legacy.

He awarded Brian £285,658 in compensation for his injury and for his lost future earnings and pension contributions.
