Millionaire charged over 'hitting son, 11, with boat after he fell overboard'

A millionaire property developer has been arrested following the death of his 11-year-old son, who was struck by his boat in San Francisco.

The 27-year-old half-brother of the school boy, who had special needs, injured his leg in the incident after the two were tossed from the boat.

Javier Burillo, 57, is accused of vehicular manslaughter with a vessel, willful harm or injury to a child and reckless operation of a vessel.

He was over the alcohol limit at the time of the crash and failed a sobriety test afterwards, reports say.

According to The Ark, the boys were hit by the boat when their dad tried to rescue them.

The pair fell off the 33ft Targa Protector boat after the vessel hit a wave, according the Mail Online.

Burillo, whose family owns Mexican media company Televisa, called 911 at around 7pm on September 15.

Tiburon Police Chief Mike Cronin said: "He was grief-stricken but completely cooperative.

"I really cannot imagine his grief."

It is not known whether the two boys were wearing life jackets when they fell into the water.

Friend Azita Mujica-Beavers described the property developer as a "good family man", adding: "The fact they are holding him (in jail) is insane."

The millionaire was released from custody on Sunday night after posting a $1million (£799,955) bond, the Mail Online reports.

He was married to the former Mexican President Miguel Aleman's daughter, with whom he has three children.

He had his 11-year-old son with his second wife, Rose, although the couple filed for divorce earlier this year.

They live in a $10million (£7.9million) home overlooking the San Francisco's Corinthian Yacht Club, where he left his boat after the crash.
