Dad and daughter's lucky escape after tree falls onto their car

A father and his his daughter had a lucky escape when a tree came crashing down on their car.

The pair were travelling on the Downpatrick Road outside Seaforde, Co Down on Friday morning when the incident occured.

Strong winds in the region forced the tree onto the road, smashing the front of the car while the pair were travelling along the road.

Emergency services later arrived on the scene to attend to the driver and one passenger.

Both father and daughter escaped injury but were left badly shaken.

The PSNI confirmed to Belfast Live that they had received a report of a one vehicle road traffic collision around 11am on May 22.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "It was reported that a vehicle collided with a tree that had fallen onto the road. There were no reports of any serious injuries."

The accident is one in several that occurred across Northern Ireland today, with a similar incident occurring in Fortwilliam Park this afternoon.

It's understood that a vehicle was also hit in the North Belfast incident, but there was no one injured.

It comes as Northern Ireland continues to be hit by strong gales on Friday, with a yellow weather in place for most of the day.

The Met Office said the warning would last between 10am on May 22 and 9pm tonight with travel disruption expected.
