The potential impact of the coronavirus on the property market has not stopped developers' attraction to high-rise apartments in Newcastle.
A company called Five Elements Group has lodged plans with Newcastle council for 30 apartments spread across two eight-storey towers overlooking No.1 Sportsground in Parry Street.
The narrow site is wedged between two apartment blocks of a similar scale and also with frontages to both Parry and Hall streets.
The $12.8 million redevelopment proposal includes an underground car stacker for 54 vehicles between the two towers.
The Five Elements proposal belies a decline in the number of development applications in Newcastle council's online DA tracker.
The council received 99 development applications in the first 14 days of April last year but this dropped to 50 in the corresponding period this year, according to the tracker.
The council received 88 DAs in the first two weeks of April in 2018 and 110 in the corresponding fortnight in 2017.
