D'Mani Mellor seals Manchester United loan transfer exit

League Two outfit Salford City have announced the signing of Manchester United striker D'Mani Mellor on loan.

The 20-year-old, who can operate out wide as well as through the middle, has joined the Ammies on loan for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign to bolster his prospects of earning regular football at a competitive level.

Mellor, who has one first-team appearance for United to his name — that coming in the UEFA Europa League against Astana back in 2019 — has never departed Old Trafford on loan before, meaning his temporary stint at Salford should most certainly benefit his progress.

He struggled with injuries last season and hardly played a part in United's Under-23 campaign, but has trained with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's senior squad this summer.

Relishing the challenge of playing for Gary Bowyer's side, Mellor told Salford's club website : "I can’t wait to get started with Salford City. Having spoken to the manager and his staff, I know this is the perfect place for me to start playing regular senior football.

"I’ve been at Manchester United since the age of eight, I’ve loved my time in the Academy and learnt so much but I’m ready now to compete every week in the Football League.

"Salford is a great club, it is one I know well as a local lad, the fans are really passionate and I’m looking forward to performing for them over the season."

Salford boss Bowyer has thanked United for allowing them to take the youngster on loan.

Bowyer said: "Firstly a big thank you to all at Manchester United, this loan once again strengthens the relationship between the two clubs with Di’Shon Bernard having a successful loan here last season.

"We are delighted that D’Mani has agreed to join us on loan and he gives us another attacking option.

"He is an exciting player. with an incredible work rate who was very excited to come and join us."

Mellor could make his debut for his new club this afternoon when they face Newport County at the Peninsula Stadium.
