D.J. Swearinger opens up about why Redskins cut him

Last year as the season fell apart, the Washington Redskins decided to cut safety D.J. Swearinger after repeated public comments about the team.

Now with the Arizona Cardinals, Swearinger was naturally asked about the subject and handled it in a mature manner.

Swearinger spoke with Arizona Sports 98.7 FM.:

“I spoke the truth in Washington, but it wasn’t the right way to speak the truth,” he explained. “That’s all the learning part and growing part for me.”

Of course, Swearinger was allegedly caught making remarks about Jay Gruden on social media this offseason. Whether he was speaking the truth while with the team or more recently perhaps isn’t even a point of contention though, as Redskins coaches have remained adamant since that they simply couldn’t have a player publicly speaking out about the team to the media.

While Swearinger has found a second chance on the rebuilding Cardinals, the Redskins have moved on in their own right by adding Landon Collins to the depth chart.
