D.J. Swearinger, Budda Baker left off list of top safeties in NFL

With the offseason continuing, we have a new list of the best players in the NFL at a certain position. This time, Touchdown Wire’s Doug Farrar ranked the top 11 safeties in the NFL right now.

The Cardinals’ two projected starting safeties — D.J. Swearinger and Budda Baker — were left off the list.

The list includes some very talented players — Jamal Adams, Malik Hooker, Derwin James, Eddie Jackson, Earl Thomas and others — so the lack of Cardinals makes sense.

Plus, Swearinger was cut from the Washington Redskins late last season and Baker was primarily a slot corner in 2018.

Swearinger has not yet been a Pro Bowler and, while Baker was as a rookie, it was as a special teams player, and he was only an alternate last year.

Swearinger is talented. He is smart. He is fierce. However, he isn’t one of the game’s best at his position. Baker, though, is a player the team believes can be great. Moving him back to safety where he was incredibly productive as a rookie late in the season might just land him on a similar list in a year.
