- Second World War veteran Dougie Shelley, who served in the Arctic Convoys and played a role in D-Day, has died aged 100.
- Mr Shelley, a seaman gunner on HMS Milne during D-Day, passed away on 21 March.
- He joined the Royal Navy at 17 and was involved in guarding the Normandy beaches for troops going ashore.
- For his 100th birthday last September, he received over 16,000 cards following an appeal, including from the King and Downing Street.
- On his milestone birthday, Mr Shelley was also informed he would receive France’s highest honour, the Legion d’Honneur.
