The 6th of June marks the 70th anniversary of D-day and the invasion of occupied Europe, which led to the allied victory in the second world war. Hundreds of veterans are expected to travel to France to join in the commemorations.

We would like to hear from anyone who has memories of the D-day landings. You may be a veteran yourself or were a child at the time and remember the news reports. Or perhaps you have heard stories from relatives or friends who had direct experience of the invasion. You may also have photographs, letters or some other memorabilia that you would like to share.

You can share your stories and photographs by clicking on one of the blue 'Contribute' buttons or by using the new Guardian app for smartphones - just search for GuardianWitness assignments.

We will use the most interesting contributions in our coverage of the D-day landings.
