D’Angelo Russell on LeBron-AD Lakers: ‘It looks like a fantasy team’

“In awe at the size of this lad. Absolute unit.” — Internet Proverb

The Los Angeles Lakers made quite the impression in their preseason debut on Saturday night with a dominant 123-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors. And aside from the solid statistical performances from Anthony Davis and LeBron James, one of the big takeaways was the sheer size of the Lakers starting lineup.

With LeBron James at point guard, Anthony Davis at power forward and JaVale McGee at center, they jumped out on the screen as a team that dwarfed the Warriors. Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell was impressed.

“It’s different seeing all those big guys on the floor at the same time,” Warriors guard D’Angelo Russell said. “LeBron playing point alongside those dudes. It’s cool. It looks like a fantasy team or something.”

The Lakers were almost always bigger than the Warriors on Saturday, who started the 6-9 Omari Spellman at center. They will not look quite as large against teams in the West like Utah, Denver or Portland, or contenders in the East like Milwaukee and Philadelphia.

Nevertheless, the Lakers sheer size will be a serious consideration for their opponents this season in addition to their elite star power. While the NBA has been in the throws of the small ball era, the Lakers have clearly made a bet that size is making a comeback.
