D’Andre Swift almost certain to miss Week 11 with a concussion

While the Detroit Lions have yet to officially rule out running back D’Andre Swift prior to Friday’s practice session, it seems a certainty the rookie running back will not play against the Carolina Panthers in Week 11.

Swift is in the concussion protocol, and the details of the protocol make it nearly impossible for Swift to clear the requirements in time to play in Charlotte. Head coach Matt Patricia stated in his Friday Zoom press conference that it will be “difficult” for Swift to make the trip.

The concussion protocol states that a player must go through one full practice without contact, followed by one full practice with contact, and remain asymptomatic of any further brain injury signs. Friday is the Lions’ last practice session of the week. Swift did not practice on Thursday.

Assuming Swift will not play, Adrian Peterson figures to return to being the lead running back. Kerryon Johnson’s role should also expand.
