Czech Republic vs Scotland WILL go ahead on Monday

The Scottish FA has confirmed that Monday's Nations League clash against Czech Republic will go ahead as planned.

Doubt was plunged on the fixture after the Czech FA issued a statement on Friday night saying they had sent their players home from international duty due to coronavirus concerns.

Their statement read: "Although the Czech national team defeated Slovakia 3-1 on Friday, the second match in Olomouc against Scotland will not take place in September.

"The international break is over, the squad has been disbanded. The reason is a conflict between the assigned medical professional and the head of the Czech FA.

"There is great concern that the virus could spread further. The match with Scotland will not take place on Monday."

But following talks involving Scottish FA Chief Executive Ian Maxwell and UEFA’s Deputy General Secretary Giorgio Marchetti and Director of National Associations, Zoran Lakovic, the game is now set to proceed.

Maxwell said: “We were as surprised as UEFA to learn of the statement posted on the official FACR channels last night.

"Following extensive conversations late last night and this morning we have received categorical assurance that the match goes ahead.

“Furthermore, Czech Republic have confirmed they will be able to fulfil their obligations to the match and, more importantly, to the stringent COVID-19 testing regime that is sacrosanct to ensure the safety of our players and staff.

“While we empathise with all national associations during this period of global uncertainty, none the less we required and received absolute assurance that we will be entering a safe and secure environment having worked diligently in Scotland to maintain safety and adherence to UEFA’s necessary COVID-19 protocols.”

Scotland began their Nations League campaign with a 1-1 draw against Israel at Hampden Park.

Ryan Christie gave Steve Clarke's side a 44th-minute lead before Eran Zahavi equalised 17 minutes from time.
