The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Nils Frahm: Them
This track gives me shivers each time I listen to it. I’ve been a fan of Nils Frahm’s music for a while now but this may be my favourite of his to date.
The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Surface: Falling In Love
It’s possibly the best disco song ever written and has one of those basslines that’s inspired many producers, myself included.
The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Fort Romeau: Say Something
This is one of the most beautiful house tracks ever written. I remember playing Say Something as an encore while I was on tour with Annie Mac. She came up to me and asked me if it was my track. I wish…
The track I’d play to show off my eclectic tastes
U: Eah
Generally I don’t like to show off but this is a track I love to play when I can sense the crowd will be receptive to something leftfield. I love the different textures in it, too.
The album that got me out of bed this morning
Project Pablo: I Want To Believe
This always gets me in a good mood. Funky, mellow, lo-fi house vibes; it gets me boogieing while I make my coffee.
The track I wish I’d never played
Destiny’s Child: Say My Name
After getting sick of my remix a while back, I played the original. Turned out to be a horrible idea and people started booing! I’m not doing that again.
The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Chambray: Rub
This never fails. Chambray layers his kick drum with a clap for a high-energy groove.
The ideal festival track
Matrixxman: Procedure
I wasn’t aware of the force of this track until I dropped it at Dublin’s Forbidden Fruit festival. It has to be played on a big soundsystem to be truly appreciated. People lost their minds when the lead riff kicked in.
The track I’d play at sunset in Ibiza
Sei A: Never Wander
It’s a beautiful, melancholic track that takes an unexpected heavy turn after a minute or so. The long breakdown mid-song would be perfect as the night sets in. Most people like to play schmaltz during sunsets but I think it’s fun to drop something dark instead.
The track I’d play at my funeral
James Carr: Everybody Needs Somebody
Everybody needs somebody. Enough said.
