Cyriel Dessers on 'easy' Rangers transfer call as he addresses Neil Lennon Celtic 'radar' confession

Cyriel Dessers has addressed Neil Lennon's Celtic interest claim as he admitted joining Rangers was an 'easy choice'.

The former Hoops gaffer told The Go Radio Football Show that the new Light Blues hitman was one that was on his radar during his time in charge at Parkhead and reckons he could be 'great business' for the men from Govan. That was news to the 28-year-old who had spoken to his new club a few times over past couple of years but never to their city rivals.

Michael Beale has been chasing his No9 for a long time and finally landed his man from Cremonese on a four-year deal. He is believed to have splashed out around £4.5million to get the deal over the line as Dessers becomes the man to replace Alfredo Morelos. The striker has revealed he had interest from Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands but a switch to Glasgow offered everything he wanted as he rhymed off his pre-signing check-list.

On if he knew about Celtic's ' interest, he told the Rangers Review : "No, I didn’t know about that. I spoke a couple of times with Rangers in the past years and the contact has also been close. So I’m happy to finally be here now and it was possible to make the deal and arrive here. If you score goals then you will probably be on some clubs’ radars. "

On Rangers previously being keen and his decision to move to Glasgow this summer, he continued: "I don’t know how much I can say as it’s pretty private. The first contact was after I became the top scorer in the Eredivisie during Covid so it was a difficult time for a lot of clubs to make deals.

"After that, the contact was always there and although it wasn’t always in terms of an offer, there were some casual conversations.

"It’s not easy to just name the clubs who were interested, I don’t think they’d be happy! I had some options to stay in Italy, or Belgium and the Netherlands. Rangers are massive and I like what is happening here, the group of players here already and the manager who has a really good idea of what he wants on and off the pitch is fundamental for me.

"That’s why I made the choice. I looked at the training ground, the stadium, how the club wants to work which is very professional and that’s something I was looking for, then it was a pretty easy choice actually."
