Cyprus travel: Simon Calder explains as Foreign Office safety advice issued

The Independent travel correspondent Simon Calder offers his advice on whether it is safe to travel to Cyprus as the Iran-Israel conflict continues.

Israel, only 145 miles from the popular Cypriot resort of Ayia Napa, launched airstrikes on Iran on 13 June, and the two countries have since continued to carry out attacks back and forth. The US then became involved after launching attacks on Tehran’s nuclear facilities over the weekend.

The Foreign Office said that “ongoing hostilities in the region” could “escalate quickly and pose security risks for the wider region”, but has not issued an official warning suggesting Cyprus is unsafe for visitors.
