Cynthia Nixon says parts of Sex and the City lacked diversity and 'look dated'

Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon has recalled her time on the show, saying it lacked diversity and now looks "very dated."

Cynthia, 54, played Miranda Hobbes on the subversive HBO comedy/sitcom which ran for six reasons between 1998 and 2004.

It was also adapted for two films in 2008 and 2010.

The show followed four women - played by Cynthia, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Kristin Davis - as they navigated life and relationships in New York City.

And while Cynthia reflects some parts of the show have stood the test of time, others "look dated."

"There are things about Sex and the City that look very dated now," the star said, "certainly how white it was.

"Even at the time, we were very aware of that."

Mirror Online has reached out to HBO for comment.

She added to Radio Times : "'However, it was revolutionary in terms of the age of the characters.

"Sex and the City showed the world that women aren’t completely marriage-minded.

"It showed how women are deeply interested in sex and really care about it."

And despite her fond memories on the show, Cynthia admitted she can't see herself returning to play Miranda any time soon, wanting to focus on upcoming projects instead.

She's currently lined up to appear on Netflix's Rathced, alongside American Horror Story's Sarah Paulson.

Cynthia recently made headlines as she weighed in on author JK Rowling's transgender controversy.

The Harry Potter writer came under fire after speaking out on transgender issues.

Now Cynthia has said that her comments were "really painful" for transgender son Samuel.

Speaking to The Independent, Cynthia remarked that the controversy hasn't hampered her or Samuel's enjoyment of the best-selling Harry Potter series.

"Samuel has a friend of his here right now who has never seen any of the films," she continued, "so we are actually watching all of them. We’re halfway through number six."

And touching on politics, Cynthia has made her opinions very well known in recent years.

She ran for governor of New York in 2018, and has hit out at US President Donald Trump in no uncertain terms.

"My greatest and most immediate hope," she said, "is that Donald Trump is not re-elected president."
