Cyclists call for dangerous hole on popular Lanarkshire cycle path to be repaired

Concerned Larkhall cyclists have warned that someone will be seriously injured if action isn't taken to repair a collapsed section of a popular cycle path.

William McLean says he has reported the problem with the section of the path, which lies just at the bend behind the football training grounds and Fairholm Street in the town, to South Lanarkshire Council (SLC) last winter.

A regular user of the path, William told Lanarkshire Live : "I have tried on two occasions to contact the council to deal unsuccessfully with what I think is dangerous part of the cycling path that has collapsed in Larkhall.

"I would like to see something done about it before some one is seriously hurt as you can't see it very well at night.

"The first time I contacted the authority's repairs department and that was last winter and they said it would be fixed sometime.

"When this didn't I contacted my local councillor who was then told by technical services they are keeping a eye on it and that they don't think it is getting worse.

"Recently they resurfaced a good area of roads within Larkhall, so I just don't see how they can't fix it."

Head of roads and transportation Colin Park told us : “We are aware of subsidence on this stretch of the cycle route and have installed fencing as a temporary safety measure.

“We are monitoring the area for any further subsidence and will continue to do so.

"We will carry out a permanent repair when conditions allow."
