Cyclists blast 'criminal' who lodged tree branch at head height on high speed trail near Edinburgh

An individual who placed a tree branch across a popular cycle trail near Edinburgh has been branded an "outright criminal".

The tree branch was dangerously lodged between two trees at head height at the end of Careless Whisper in Peebles' Glentress Forest.

A popular spot with mountain bikers located around an hour from Edinburgh, the branch could have seriously injured cyclists coming down the trail at high speed.

TweedLove, organisers of cycling events in Tweed Valley, slammed the "dangerous behaviour".

They said: "Careless doesn't quite cover it.

"Really disappointing to see that someone placed a branch across the trail near the end of Careless Whisper at Glentress today.

"Hopefully the FLS zoning policy will reduce this sort of lunatic, dangerous behaviour as time goes on.

"Clearly some people haven't got the message yet. Take care out there, and keep your eyes peeled."

One person said: "If some one put the stick there for the benefit of hurting someone, then a psychologist is probably needed for that person."

"There is nothing careless about this act I’m afraid.

"It’s outright criminal. A wilful, deliberate and pre-meditated act.

"Unfortunately I fear this will go unpunished as usual", blasted another.

Another said: "That should be an attempted murder charge if they are caught doing that."
