Cyclist violently assaulted after crashing into girl, 3, in east London

A cyclist who crashed into a three-year-old girl at a zebra crossing in east London suffered a broken jaw after being violently assaulted by a member of the public.

The 33-year-old collided with the child on Lauriston Road, Hackney, around 11am on Saturday May 13.

He was immediately approached by a man who punched him in the face, before leaving the scene.

“The suspect is not believed to have been known to the child,” said a Scotland Yard spokesperson.

The cyclist was taken to hospital by a friend where he was found to have a broken jaw, which required “extensive surgery”.

The child is not believed to have suffered any injuries in the crash.

Police investigating the incident are now appealing for any drivers who may have been in the area at the time and could have dash-cam footage of what happened to come forward.
