Cyclist 'takes daily exercise' on motorway

A cyclist was stopped by police on a motorway while claiming to be out on their daily exercise.

The female cyclist was spotted wheeling her bike along the hard shoulder of the M57 on Saturday.

Police shared a photo of the cyclist caught on the motorway and said that the woman was "taking her daily exercise".

The woman was removed from the road and reported for the offence.

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Cyclist walking her bike along the shoulder of the M57 taking her daily exercise.

"Safely taken off network and reported for the offence."

After the country was placed into a state of lockdown on 23 March, police were given new powers to fine those breaking the restrictions.

The Roads Policing Unit has shared stories of other individuals caught on roads across the UK flouting lockdown rules.

One individual stopped by police, admitted he was out driving around Merseyside for a "day out".

The driver was disqualified and had no vehicle documents.

Lancashire Police recently stopped a vehicle who was driving from London to Scotland carrying a passenger in an 'at risk' group.

In North Wales, police stopped a camper van after they were tipped off by a member of the public.

The occupants of the van were sent home after they confessed they were travelling to see family.

Members of the public reported the camper van, which had been parked up in Bangor overnight, to police who turned up and sent them back home - reports North Wales Live.
