Cyclist taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after collision with lorry

A cyclist has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a collision involving a lorry in Trafford Park.

Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between a bike and a truck on Wheel Forge Way in Trafford just before 2.10pm on Friday (June 12).

The male cyclist was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, GMP said.

The driver of the lorry remained at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

No arrests have been made.

Police and ambulance crews remain at the scene this afternoon and Ashburton Road West has been closed off.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called shortly before 2.10pm this afternoon (Friday 12 June 2020) to reports of a road traffic collision involving a truck and a cyclist on Wheel Forge Way in Trafford.

"The cyclist has been taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

"The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries.

"No arrests have been made."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We we called to the scene this afternoon.

"The incident was a collision between a cyclist and a truck.

"We remain at the scene with an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and a Hazardous Area Response Team."

Ashburton Road West remains closed between Guinness Road and Bailey Road.

Traffic alerts are reporting slow traffic in the surrounding area.
