Cyclist taken to hospital following crash near Newcastle park

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after a crash in Newcastle.

Police and the ambulance service were called to Walker Park just before 5pm on Wednesday following a collision involving a bicycle and a vehicle.

The incident blocked Scrogg Road temporarily as emergency services worked at the scene, with paramedics treating the cyclist before they were taken to hospital in an ambulance.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Officers were called to reports of a collision between a bicycle and a vehicle at Scrogg Road, near the junction with Wharrier Street, in Walker at about 4.45pm.

"The cyclist has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary to be checked over but their injuries are not believed to be serious."

Police were at the scene for just over an hour before they left at about 6pm.
