Cyclist taken to hospital after collision with car in Newcastle city centre

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after being involved in a crash with a car in Newcastle city centre.

Emergency services were called at around 8.40am on Wednesday to reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist on Percy Street.

The road was subsequently partially closed by police from Prudhoe Place to Haymarket Lane.

The North East Ambulance Service dispatched a crew, a specialist paramedic and a rapid response paramedic to the scene.

Paramedics treated the cyclist at the scene before he was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

The extent of his injuries are currently unknown.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: "We received a call at 8.47am this morning to reports of a road traffic incident involving a cyclist on Percy Street, Newcastle.

"We dispatched one ambulance crew, one specialist paramedic, and one rapid response paramedic.

"The patient was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) for further treatment."

Northumbria Police confirmed officers were in attendance until the recovery of the vehicle was completed at around 11.40am with the road reopening soon after.
