Cyclist taken to hospital after being knocked off his bike on the Coast Road

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after a collision in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to the Coast Road near to Chillingham Road shortly after 8am on Wednesday after reports that a man had been knocked off his bike.

The man was lying in the road with hip injuries when paramedics arrived.

The cyclist was then taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary for treatment.

His injuries are not believed to be serious.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “Shortly before 8.15am today (Wednesday) we received a report from the ambulance service about a collision at the Coast Road roundabout near the junction with Chillingham Road, Newcastle.

“It was reported that a car had been in collision with a male cyclist who had been knocked off his bike and was lying injured in the road.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the male was treated for non-life threatening injuries to his hip.

“The road has since been cleared.”

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service added: "We were called at 8.04am this morning to reports of a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a vehicle.

"We sent one ambulance and took one male patient to the RVI."
