Cyclist suffers serious injury after being thrown 30ft from railings at Egremont Promenade

A cyclist has been seriously injured after colliding with railings at Egremont Promenade in Wallasey.

The Roads Policing Unit for Merseyside Police tweeted more information about the incident shortly after midnight. The tweet explained that the cyclist had attempted to negotiate a steep slippy slope at Egremont Promenade before they struck railings and were thrown down a 30ft drop onto the beach below.

According to police the incident was caused by a failure with the bike's brakes. Police took the opportunity to encourage cyclists to ensure their bikes are in good working order.
