A cyclist has died after being struck by a train at Ascot Park in Adelaide's south on Tuesday afternoon.

SA Police said emergency services were called to the collision near Railway Terrace and Sixth Avenue just after 3pm.

A man from Adelaide, 41, died at the scene.

The Seaford and Flinders lines were closed for several hours while crews worked at the scene.

Both train lines have since reopened.
