Cyclist Steve Cummings taken to hospital after 'havoc' caused during Tour of Britain following two crashes

Two crashes during today's stage five of Tour of Britain has caused 'havoc' with favourite Steve Cummings taken to hospital.

The crash happened shortly after another involving Rory Townsend, with Cummings' team informing fans via Twitter the cyclists is out of the race.

The tweet shared by Team Dimension Data said: "Unfortunately @StevoCummings has crashed & is out of the race.

"He's okay & currently on his way to a local hospital to be checked over.

"We'll provide a further update in due course."

The crash took place sometime after the second sprint, it is not yet clear the extent of Rory Townsend injuries.

Rory was forced to seek medical attention from a medical car close to the race track.
