The cyclist involved in a collision on Jesmond Road has been "seriously injured", police confirm.
Officers also confirmed that the driver of the vehicle involved was also taken to hospital.
The extent of the driver's injuries are not known.
Emergency services were called to the scene near Sandyford Road during rush hour on Friday.
Two patients were treated on scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital.
On Saturday, a spokesman for Northumbria Police said that the cyclist had suffered serious injuries.
He added: "An investigation is ongoing."
