Cyclist seriously injured in Ayrshire incident as vehicle drives off

Police have launched an appeal after a cyclist was left seriously injured in Ayrshire.

The 62-year-old man was cycling on Braes Road in Saltcoats when a vehicle nearby performed a manoeuvre forcing him to brake suddenly.

The vehicle did not stop at the scene.

The cyclist sustained serious injuries and was rushed by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital.

His injuries are not said to be life-threatening.

Police have now launched an appeal to trace the driver of the vehicle involved.

It is described as a small dark or black hatchback type car and the driver is described as a white male, of medium build, between 25 and 35 years old and was last seen wearing a light or white coloured top and shorts, dark jacket and dark skip cap.

Sergeant Kevin Blackley, of Irvine Road Policing Unit, said: “Our enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.

“We are particularly keen to speak to the driver of the vehicle involved and we would urge anyone with further information about the driver or the car involved to get in touch.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage which may assist the investigation is asked to contact police on 101, quoting 1464 of 29 April.”
