Car ends up shooting off the road in near miss captured on camera

A cyclist's shocking footage has captured a near miss between two motorists in Bristol.

The video, filmed in Perrinpit Road in Frampton Cotterell, shows a car overtaking the cyclist as it approaches a corner.

However, the driver suddenly has to take drastic action as a second car turns into the road from a nearby junction.

The second vehicle is forced to brake suddenly to avoid a smash while the first car ends up mounting the kerb, inches away from a traffic light.

The cyclist then rides past as the car reverses off the pavement.

Police data has recently shown that cyclists in Bristol and surrounding areas are among the most at risk in the UK of being injured by a car.

Last year,  Avon and Somerset Constabulary  were called out to 478 incidents where cyclists had been injured by cars while on the road.

This figure is higher than most other regions in the country. In fact, it was topped only by the county of Hampshire, which was the most dangerous.

Across the country, 2018 saw police attend over 6,611 incidents where cyclists had been injured after being hit by vehicles.
