Cyclist rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by car

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after being hit by a car in Salford.

Police were called to Cadishead Way, in Irlam, shortly before 8.10am today (Monday, September 21) to reports of the collision.

The male cyclist was rushed to hospital to be treated for serious injuries to his head.

Following the crash, a scene remained in place close to the junction with Irlam Wharf Road.

The road was closed in both directions between Fairhills Road and Excalibur Way throughout the morning.

It has since reopened.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "Shortly before 8.10am we were called to Irlam Wharf Road, in Salford.

"It was a crash between a car and a bike.

"We have taken a patient to hospital with serious head injuries."

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further information.
