Cyclist rushed to hospital after 'serious' crash with car on East Preston Street

A cyclist has been taken to hospital after he knocked down by a car in a "serious" crash on Edinburgh's East Preston Street.

Police were called to reports of the early morning crash at around 6:30am this morning (22 June).

The 24-year-old cyclist was treated at the scene before being taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Several roads around the scene of the accident remain closed by police following the collision, including parts of South Clerk Street.

Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were called around 6.30am to a report of a serious crash between a car and a cyclist in East Preston Street, Edinburgh.

"A 24-year-old man was taken to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary by the Scottish Ambulance Service.

"Road closures are in place at East Preston Street with Oxford Street, South Clerk Street at Bernard Terrace, West Preston Street at Causewayside and Newington Road at Salisbury Place."

Edinburgh Live has contacted NHS Lothian for an update on the cyclists condition.
