Cyclist rushed to hospital after falling from bridge into Scots burn

A cyclist was rushed to hospital after falling off a bridge into a Scots burn.

Emergency services were called out to rescue the man after he fell into water in the Burn of Boyne at Scotsmill Bridge on the B9139 near Portsoy in Aberdeenshire.

Coastguard, fire service and police all attended the incident after the alarm was raised at about 10.50am on Saturday morning.

Two fire appliances, a rescue boat and two coastguard rescue teams were all called out to rescue the man.

He was pulled out the burn at about 12.15pm and left in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.

An ambulance then conveyed him to hospital where his condition is unknown at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We received report of a male cyclist coming off the road and falling in the water at Scottsmill Bridge on the B9139 near Portsoy.

"Emergency services, including the Coastguard and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, attended and the man was taken by ambulance to hospital.”

A fire spokeswoman added: "We had two appliances attend along with a boat team after receiving a call at 10.57am.

"We used lifejackets, a short extension ladder, a water rescue path and a saw.

"Crews assisted the ambulance staff and the stop message came in at 12.17pm."

A coastguard spokesman confirmed they had also attended.

He said: "We sent coastguard rescue teams from Fraserburgh and Macduff following reports that a person had fell into the water.

"We helped to assist the casualty onto the bank and left them in the care of the ambulance service."
