Cyclist rushed to hospital after crash with car at busy Edinburgh roundabout

A cyclist has been rushed to hospital following a crash involving a car on a busy roundabout on the Edinburgh Bypass. The smash took place at the Sheriffhall Roundabout off the A720 around 5pm.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service, raced to the scene, as well as fire crews who assisted cops as they dealt with the aftermath of the incident. The cyclist was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh to receive treatment.

Their gender, age, the nature of their injuries and current medical condition were not disclosed, according to EdinburghLive. Photos taken at the scene show at least two blue-lit ambulances sitting at one of the cut-offs of the roundabout, blocking motorists from proceeding further on the route while they assist the victim.

A fire engine can also be seen parked stationary at the crash site. It is understood no one else was hurt in the collision. Two lanes heading west were closed off as a result of the event, but have since reopened.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a crash involving a car and a cyclist at Sheriffhall Roundabout off the A720 at around 5.05pm on Tuesday, September 20.

"The cyclist has been taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. The road has reopened.”
