Cyclist rushed to hospital after bike mangled in horror smash with car near Grand Canal

A cyclist was rushed to hospital after a horror smash with a car near the Grand Canal.

The collision took place on St Vincent Street near Leonard's Corner in Dublin 8.

The smash left the bike mangled, while the car suffered heavy damage to the front.

The cyclist, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics before being taken to nearby St James' Hospital.

Thankfully, his injuries are understood to not be life threatening.

Gardai have opened an investigation into the crash.

"Gardai and emergency services attended the scene of a road traffic collision which occurred on St Vincent Street South, Dublin 8 this afternoon, 22 July 2021.," they said.

"A car and a cyclist where involved in the incident.

"The cyclist, a male aged in his 40s was taken to St James Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
