Cyclist remains in hospital with serious head injuries following collision in Cowgate

A cyclist is still in hospital with serious injuries following a collision in Cowgate.

Emergency services were called to the A167, near the Morrisons, on Saturday shortly before 5.30pm following reports that a cyclist had been knocked over by a white Audi.

Ponteland Road was closed heading westbound from 6pm to 9pm while police cleared the scene and carried out investigations.

The 42-year-old cyclist was taken to hospital with what were described as "serious head injuries" and an investigation was launched.

On Monday, police confirmed that he remained in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 5.22pm to a patient who was injured on Two Ball Lonnen.

"We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and a Hazardous Area Response Team and we transported one male patient with head injuries to the RVI."

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 807 021119.
