Cyclist remains critical after being knocked off bike

A cyclist who was knocked off her bike yesterday morning remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Emergency services were called to Lunt Road, Sefton, near the Punchbowl pub at around 8.45am on Sunday after reports of a woman cyclist in her 30s being found seriously injured in the road.

It was reported she had been struck by a vehicle which had failed to stop at the scene.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance and is currently described as being in a critical but stable condition. Her family has been made aware and are being supported by officers.

Police yesterday said enquiries were ongoing at the scene and road closures remained in place.

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road traffic accident.

Police have today said she has been released under investigation.
