Cyclist pulled to safety after falling 20ft down gorge

A cyclist was pulled to safety after falling down a 20ft gorge this morning.

Fire crews were called in to rescue the man after he fell down the deep ditch and could not get out.

Firefighters used a rope to pull the man to safety.

The dramatic incident unfolded off Lilford Avenue in Warrington, which runs alongside Sankey Brook, at around 7.45am.

Three crews, two from Lymm and one from Warrington, attended the scene, as well as paramedics.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue said: "Firefighters were called to a report of a man being stuck down a ditch in the Lilford Avenue area of Warrington after falling off his bicycle.

"On arrival crews found the man 20ft down a ravine.

"After assessing the scene, firefighters got the man out of the ravine using rope rescue equipment."

He was then handed over to paramedics for medical checks.
