Cyclist left with serious injuries after crash on East Lancs Road

A cyclist has been left with serious injuries following a crash on the East Lancs Road.

Emergency services were called to the collision involving a car and bicycle at Golborne Island, near Wigan, shortly before 7.15am.

The cyclist, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The incident led to delays on the East Lancs Road's westbound carriageway this morning.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to Golborne Island, shortly before 7.15am, to reports of a collision between a car and a bicycle.

"The cyclist, a male in his 50s, was taken to the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan with serious injuries."

Greater Manchester Police has been contacted for further information.
