Cyclist knocked from bike in crash with BMW in Liverpool city centre

A cyclist was knocked from his bike and left injured after a crash with a BMW in Liverpool city centre.

Emergency services were called to Strand Street during rush hour to reports of a collision at the junction of Salthouse Quay.

As paramedics, fire crews and police officers responded, a cyclist in his 50s was found injured and rushed to hospital a short time later.

Road closures were put in place as crews worked at the scene and traffic was turned around, away from the area.

The extent of the victim's injuries remains unknown but a spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that the driver of the BMW stopped at the scene.

They are assisting officers with enquiries into the crash.

Pictures taken at the scene showed a large number of paramedics putting the cyclist into an ambulance while police inspected the car and bike.

In a statement, police said: "We responded to a collision between a cyclist and BMW at 4.15pm on Strand Street, at the junction with Salthouse Quay.

"The cyclist is man in 50s and was taken to hospital for assessment of his injuries.

"The driver stopped to assist and enquiries ongoing."
