Cyclist killed in suspected hit and run involving truck in Geraldton

The Brand Highway has been closed to traffic while police investigate the incident.

Police are treating the death of a cyclist in Western Australia's Mid West region as a hit and run and believe he was struck and knocked off his bike by a truck.

The man was riding along Brand Highway near Wandina, in Geraldton's outer suburbs, when he was hit by the vehicle just before 6:00am.

Paramedics attempted to treat him after he was found with significant injuries, but he died at the scene.

The man is believed to be from Perth and aged between 40 and 50-years-old.

It is understood his family are yet to be notified.

Mid West and Gascoyne district Superintendent Mike Bell said police were appealing for witnesses.

"There was no vehicle at the scene, so it's quite possibly a hit and run," he said.

"We'll just have to wait and see what the investigation reveals further.

"We ask anyone that was in the area at the time if they saw anything or if they've noticed a large vehicle with damage to the front to take details of that and contact police with that information."
