Cyclist killed in fatal Glasgow south side road crash

A cyclist has been killed in a fatal road crash in the south side of Glasgow.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service raced to the scene at 9.15am this morning.

The police have since confirmed to Glasgow Live a female cyclist has tragically lost her life after a collision with a lorry.

A spokesperson said: "A woman has died following a road crash in the southside of Glasgow this morning Wednesday 22 May 2019.

"Around 9.15 am today, a bicycle and a lorry collided on Nithsdale Drive at Pollokshaws Road, Pollokshaws, Glasgow.

"The female cyclist died at the scene. The lorry driver was not injured.

"Nithsdale Drive at Pollokshaws Road was closed to traffic to allow officers to carry out their enquiries. The road is now open.

"Sergeant Mark McGowan at the Road Policing Complex in Helen Street, Govan would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the crash and who has not already spoken to police. He can be contacted via telephone number 101 quoting incident number 0766 of 22 May 2019."

Pollokshaws Road is a major commuting route between the south side of the city and Glasgow City Centre.
