Cyclist killed in car collision on the Central Coast

A CYCLIST has died after colliding with a car on the Central Coast on Sunday.

About 1.30pm the cyclist and a Hyundai were travelling on Wilfred Barrett Drive, Magenta when the collision occurred.

The cyclist, a 72-year-old man, was treated at the scene by paramedics, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital where he later died.

The driver of the Hyundai, a 66-year-old woman, was not injured and underwent mandatory testing.

Tuggerah Lakes police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Just hours later emergency services were called to a second crash on Wilfred Barrett Drive.

About 6.10pm Sunday Tuggerah Lakes police were called to the scene where a black Hyundai Coupe and a white Toyota Prado, travelling in opposite directions, collided.

The Hyundai driver, a 23-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 28-year-old woman, were treated at the scene for significant pelvic, leg, rib and internal injuries, before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, both in a serious condition.

The Toyota driver, a 16-year-old girl on a learner licence, and her passenger, a 53-year-old man, were not seriously injured.

The teen was taken to Wyong Hospital as a precaution.

The man was subject to a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit.

As inquiries continue, police are urging anyone who has dashcam footage to contact Tuggerah Lakes Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
