A cyclist who tragically died during a Tour of the Borders event has been named as a married father-of-two.
Tragic Jason Brand, 49, was taking part in the ride when he was involved in a horror collision on a road near the Megget Reservoir, Selkirk , at around 9.40am yesterday morning.
Jason, from Edinburgh , was sadly pronounced dead at the scene after suffering serious injuries.
Organisers of the event took to Facebook yesterday to reveal the devastating news.
They said: "It is with the deepest regret that we announce the death of a participant at Tour O The Borders closed road cycling sportive.
"Next of kin have been informed. No further information is available at this point but we expect Police Scotland to issue a statement in due course."
Police Scotland confirmed the death in a statement.
"Police in the Scottish Borders responded to a road near Meggetland Reservoir at around 9.40am on Sunday September 1.
"A 49-year-old cyclist was involved in a collision during the Tour of the Borders event.
"As a result he sustained serious injuries. No other persons were involved in the collision.
"He was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are continuing."
